Coffee shop exploration : Marmalade.

67 Northgate street, Chester, CH1 2HQ. Open Mon - Fri 8am - 5pm, Sat - Sun 10am - 5pm | www.marmalade-chester.co.uk

Nestled at the edge of the city walls is a gluten free haven of deliciousness, a delightful little coffee shop with an abundance of tasty treats inside, a peaceful little find tucked away from the usual tourist trail, you may want to keep this place all to yourself..

Marmalade has been nestled in the Northern side of the city for the past two years, and in it's short time it's already become a favourite with the locals, receiving rave reviews for not just their excellent coffee, but their vast selection of gluten free offerings on the menu.

A lovely little coffee shop that's tucked away from the busy tourist trail, making for a delightful find to nestle up in for a brew or a bite to eat. As you enter the ever changing cake counter greets you with the days offerings, so you'll always find something different to try. From tasty cheesecakes to freshly baked scones, chocolatey brownies and plenty of traditional cakes, and all gluten free!

Whilst a gluten free diet may be catered for much more than in previous years, it's a refreshing change to see a full menu of wheat free bakes to try, and ones that are this delicious too! The seasonal offerings make for a delightful addition to the menu, so you really will be pleasantly surprised with the choice when you visit.

On my visit there was certainly plenty to tempt with delicious chocolate cheesecakes, rocky roads, Victoria sponges, and jammy scones to choose from, I decided to try the ginger cake, always a favourite to try! A delightful tray bake that certainly didn't disappoint, very rich and sweet with a slightly buttery note to the bake, sticky and of course moist, you really couldn't tell that this was gluten free. To go alongside my cake I went for one of their traditional loose leaf tea blends, a very generous sized pot of tea that went perfectly with the cake.

You'll find a full menu of coffees, teas and soft drinks to choose from to go alongside your cake, plus a full menu of meals and snacks with gluten free options.

A lovely find at the edge of the city centre, whether you follow a strict gluten free diet or not you'll want to pop in to try their tasty bakes for yourself!
